ABOUT

What is
Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy within the pediatric population is a unique profession that understands the science of development and the art of everyday life.

If children are struggling along their developmental journeys, help and support (via evaluation and treatment) from a pediatric OT are essential to help children and caregivers reach many important outcomes:

  • independence

  • self-esteem and confidence

  • self-regulation

  • enjoyment of life

  • participation in age-appropriate meaningful activities

I can't wait to meet you and get to know your child's story and your family's story.

Together, we can collaborate to honor your child's strengths and move forward with their developmental skills in a fun, respectful, and meaningful way.

Meg Parker, MS, OTR/L

OT & Development Expert

Education

I received my bachelor's at the University of Kentucky in Psychology and my master’s at Spalding University in Occupational Therapy. Throughout these programs, I gained quality experience working alongside talented healthcare professionals and research experts throughout Kentucky.

Pediatric Experience

Following graduation, I worked in a pediatric outpatient clinic in Lexington, KY, with a skilled interdisciplinary team of speech language pathologists and occupational and physical therapists. This was a wonderful experience where I learned the importance of collaboration between disciplines, caregivers, and siblings.

Start of Meg Parker OT, LLC

Shortly before becoming a mother, I started Meg Parker OT, LLC. This private OT work has allowed me to have important time with my children as they are young, while also continuing to do the OT work I love.

Through my business I keep a small caseload, giving me the flexibility to offer uniquely specialized and attentive OT services to children (ages birth to 18 years) and their caregivers. I have found it to be a real win-win to offer these OT services within the child’s natural environment (i.e. where they normally spend their time – home, school, or daycare). Forming therapeutic relationships and helping caregivers find a clear path forward with their beloved child during a rough time is my dream job.

What makes Meg Parker OT services unique?

  • Respect for your child's individual, unique strengths and interests and ability to incorporate this into OT treatment activities while working on challenging skill development.

  • Use of your child’s natural environment for OT treatment, including indoor AND outdoor settings at school, home, and/or daycare. That’s right; I am happy to work with your child across settings based on current needs/treatment goals being addressed.

  • Collaborative/interdisciplinary team approach; strong interest in working with all caregivers to enhance progress and carry over practice between settings. Communication happens each session between OT and other caregivers on the treatment team (e.g. teacher and parent).

  • Complementary to Montessori philosophy, as Meg’s personal experience – along with OT’s evidence base – supports the following foundational elements

    • belief in the child’s innate ability

    • consideration for the whole child

    • individualized, unique treatment activities based on child, caregivers, and environment

    • importance of child gaining independence with real skills using real materials.

  • Simple, thorough, and efficient process to on-board into OT services.
